Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training

Shakotiia’takehnhas Community Services is committed to providing you the best-certified training available by offering this two-day training session that is intensive, interactive and practice orientated. It is designed to help caregivers recognize risk and learn how to intervene to prevent the immediate risk of suicide.

This training is for all caregivers (any person in a position of trust)

This includes professionals, volunteers and family members.  It is suitable for mental health professionals, nurses, physicians, pharmacists, teachers, counsellors, youth workers, police, correctional staff, school support staff, clergy and community volunteers. 

This training is not just for professionals, it is designed to meet the needs of mothers, fathers, friends, grandparents and siblings. If you are a caring person, this training is for you!


Two day overview of workshop

Day 1

  1. Introductions
  2. Sharing & completion of Attitudes & Hopes survey
  3. Cause of Death Video
  4. Group work exploring invitation and suicide ideation
  5. Explore & discuss reasons for suicide
  6. Risk assessment
  7. Contracts

Day 2

  1. Review
  2. Structured Intervention, illustration of Suicide Intervention Model
  3. Group process and practice
  4. Simulation activities
  5. Group work
  6. Process and evaluation

Shakotiia’takehnhas Community Services currently has Four ASIST Trainers. The organization has made the commitment to have four more staff members trained as trainers. By June 2008, all our trainers will have completed the Five-day intensive training for ASIST Trainers offered by Living Works.
